Day 1: Arrival and Exploration
Begin your journey with a morning departure from Kigali, arriving at Akagera National Park in time for a delicious lunch at the Akagera Game Lodge.
The first day is set to ease you into the serene environment with a relaxing boat tour on Lake Ihema. Witness hippos and crocodiles up close, and delve into the birdwatcher’s paradise with sights of numerous bird species, including the intriguing tales of Lake Ihema and Nyirabiyoro Island.
Day 2: Wildlife Encounters
Wake early to catch the park at its most vibrant, at dawn. Akagera’s diverse landscapes of savannas, wooded hills, and expansive wetlands host a fascinating array of flora and fauna, including over 540 bird species. After lunch and some relaxation at the lodge, prepare for a unique adventure with a night safari. Explore the nocturnal world of Akagera to see elusive predators like leopards and servals and experience the captivating sounds of the African night.
Day 3: Full-Day Safari and Departure
Dedicate your last day to a full-day safari, maximizing every moment in this spectacular setting.
Traverse the vast landscapes and keep an eye out for Akagera’s famous residents, from majestic elephants to graceful antelopes.
Conclude your tour with a scenic drive back to Kigali in the late afternoon, filled with memories of the incredible sights and sounds of Akagera National Park.

Day 1
Kigali-Akagera
Departure at 9:00 AM from Kigali to Akagera National Park. Arrive for lunch at the Akagera Game Lodge. Spend a relaxing afternoon with a boat tour on Lake Ihema. Akagera National Park boasts the largest protected wetland in Central Africa, encompassing about a third of the park with interconnected lakes and vast papyrus swamps. This wetland environment makes Akagera unique among the region's parks. On your boat journey on Lake Ihema, watch hippos disrupt their sleepy day, crocodiles bask in the sun and slide into the lake as the boat approaches. For amateur or passionate birdwatchers, the boat trip is a must, with a vast variety of birds to see. Lake Ihema and its island, Nyirabiyoro, both have fascinating histories. Day 2
Akagera National Park
Visit Akagera National Park around 7 AM to enjoy the wildlife and flora at dawn. The park spans 1,085 square kilometers, featuring grassy savannas, wooded areas, marshes, and lakes. The park is home to over 540 species of birds, both resident and migratory, including the famous shoebill. Lunch at Akagera Game Lodge. Spend a relaxing afternoon at the Lodge, then from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, embark on a night safari to observe the different species active at night in the park. As the sun sets behind the hills and twilight takes over, nocturnal creatures awaken and the bush comes alive with the sounds of the African night. Akagera in the darkness offers a whole new set of experiences. Many of the most sought-after species are rarely seen during the day, including leopards, genets, servals, and more. Birdwatching continues into the night, with several species of owls and nightjars visible.
